This week in Math 2nd grade learnt to recognize 2D and 3D shapes. They counted sides, vertices and angles of each shape. Then they learnt about cutting shapes into equal parts: halves, thirds and quaters as an introduction to the concept of fractions.

Science

In science we did a revision of the weather chapter, weather patterns, severe weather, water cycle, seasons of the year and how they affect people, animals and plants. Then we started to talk about different types of energy: sound, heat and light. They could also see the difference between the renewable and non-renewable energy.

This week we had a review of spelling words the students had before. We had a read aloud of the book The Twits by Roald Dahl. We also had an activity with Shel Silverstein’s poem The Eight Balloons, where students created their own illustrated book.

Next week we have spelling words about summer: vacation, popsicle, ice cream, sunglasses, sandals, summer, swimming, picnic
