3rd grade practised reading scales. They revised tenths and hundreths and changed decimals into fractions and the other way round. We also did a revision of clocks and calendars and measures: changing weeks into days, minutes into seconds, meters into centimeters and back (using decimals).
In science we continued our study of water. We continued learning about the three states of water and the water cycle.
This was our last week of spelling for this year. We finished with a review of rules and words we had previously. We also worked on grammar, focusing on verbs in past tense. We are continuing with our read aloud of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
We have also been working very hard on our International Day performance.
2nd grade had a final revision of geometrical terms. They learnt names of 2D and 3D shapes and what does it mean to cut them in halves, thirds or fourths. Then we moved on to multiplication and they learnt that it is addition of the same addends. Then they learnt that changing the order of factors gives the same answer.
In science 2nd grade played different games to revise the 3 states of matter. Then we talked about types of energy: light, sound and heat. They learnt what happens when you change the amount of energy put into sound, add or take away heat or light.
This week was our last week of spelling. We finished with summer words. Students wrote a journal about summer, in which they had to use at least five of their spelling words. We also worked on past tense verbs.
