1st grade news

English: We keep working on our tricky words and also started revising particular blends and diagraphs.
This week the spelling test will be on Wednesday. The words are: some, come, give, here, there, love, like, was, were, have.

Math: The girls were learning about dobles from 1 to 12 and practicing adding by 10s.

Science: We are almost done with the big chapter on animals. We learned about animals groups (mammals, reptiles, birds, insects, fish, amphibians), their diet (carnivores, omnivores, herbivores) and also their life cycles. This week we are revising and going back to plants.

Language Arts: In Language arts we began to discuss and identify adjectives. We also went back to the biography about Roald Dahl and chose important facts about his life to write down. We are working on practicing researching skills and choosing the most valuable information in a text.

Math: In math, we continued to get to know American coin: pennies,nickels, and dimes. The students counted and wrote the amount of money in cents and in dollars. They also practiced adding 2,3, or 4 two-digit numbers.

Science: In science we continued to discuss animal adaptations as well as environmental changes. We discussed forest fires and pollution and other effects on the environment.

English: In English, we have reviewed sounds that have been covered this year.
Math: In Math, we have been reviewing all that we’ve covered this past month.
Science: In Science, We have been talking about how sometimes living things are given properties they do not have.
Social studies: In Social studies, we have been talking about how Christmas is celebrated around the world.

Third grade continued to work on adjectives this week. And we read a nonfiction text in our Journeys books.

Math
In math we continue to solve multiplication and division word problems. The students learn to write their own stories to a given equation.

Science
In science we talked about how animals, plants, people, water and fire can cause changes to the environment.
