1st grade news

1st grade news

English: Last week we were working on a piece of narrative writing – My snowy day. Each of them was composed of 4 pictures and at least one caption under each of them. We were careful to start each sentence with a capital letter and end it with a period. The kids also read a story about Max the Cat and continued working on some new spelling words. The ones for this week’s test are:
ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety, hundred.

Math: We were working on the concept of place value – tens and ones. We also revised some math concepts we already know (partners to 10, completing to 10 as addition strategy, doubles, near doubles, teen numbers) by playing a lot of board games.

Science: We are currently talking about habitats. So far, we have read about what a habitat is and had a look at some of its examples like: polar, desert, grassland, rainforest and salty water.

Playing with grade 2 outside.
