Grade 3 October 1-5, 2018
Dear parents,
This has been again a pretty busy week for my students. First we had our pictures taken on Wednesday.
Some students were very camera shy and others were very unembarrassed 🙂
On Thursday, we had a visit from a Gymnastics teacher together with her 5 year old student who showed us a few warm up moves and some routine elements. Should you decide to send your child to this extra Gymnastics Club, you should know that it will take one hour or more and it will start at 3.10pm but not on Wednesdays therefore you’ll need to arrange transportation afterwards. (instead of the buses if your child uses them)
On October 15th (Monday) we will celebrate Teachers’ Day by reciting two poems (one changed by my students to fit more our school reality), reciting her own poem (Alana) and a dance – their own choreography (Prutha and Yukta). Hopefully we will have many pictures and movies to share with you!
Today we had our latest Spelling test and I am very happy to report very good results – the kids are given between 10 and 15 words but also they have “surprise words” – words that they struggle to spell during the week. Last week they were entrusted with a white board just for their private use so they got to practice the new words quite a lot!!
Also in LA they’ve started writing short texts on various themes and in a few styles and I’m very proud of their latest work – they had to draw two pictures and write sentences that might explain them.  They did great and their work can be admired on our walls! My plan is to encourage them to write at least one story a week. For next week they’ll have to prepare book reports – they love reading so I’m sure this would be a problem 🙂
In ICT we are using the online programming software Scratch and we have also started using www.literacyplanet.com. I’m sure you have received their login and passwords – most of them know their passwords (find beneath their login and just save it on their laptop/tablet) Please make sure they practice the games at home as well especially those involving sounds – there are no working speakers at the main school.
In Science we’re still conducting experiments on Magnets while learning how to generalise and make connections.
In Social Studies we are diving in Geography as we explore communities around the world. My students are learning all about maps, continents, countries and cities.
This week in Math we have finished quite a few (read many!!) word problems (up to page 86) and we played many games using multiplication. In the weeks to come we need to make sure that all the students know the multiplication table by heart to move on to more complicated matters. The might have a test on Monday (a surprise test that shouldn’t be too hard!)
Have a great weekend!
