There was a lot of excitement this week as we prepared for our Halloween Festival on Thursday! Our door is decorated like a Monster. Some students have made decorations to hang up in our class. Everything is looking spooky and festive. Though we still had important work to do!
In Language Arts, we wrote a sequence story together using transition words “First, Next, Then, Last”. We practiced retelling Room on the Broom using picture cues. We will continue practicing retelling strategies throughout November. We took our Spelling test, focusing on words with the short /u/ sound.
We did a STEM task challenge where the students needed to create a balance scale using a cup, playdough, a pencil, and a ruler. Then they had to balance the characters from Room on the Broom on their scale – which acted a witch’s broom! The students enjoyed the challenge and had a lot of fun retelling the story with the characters. Afterwards we reflected on what went well and what was hard during our STEM challenge. We tied it back to our Social Studies unit, thinking about how we can best cooperate.
In Math, we finished Unit 2 and took our Math Test which focused on finding missing numbers, finding one more and one less, number bonds and part-part-whole with sums up to 10 and making number sentences for addition facts up to 10.
