Math: Â In math we practiced some easy multiplication facts and went back to subtraction and addition with regrouping. We played a game that revised skip counting and solved a lot of word problems.

Language Arts: In Language arts we continued working on adverbs and we began to discuss possessive pronouns (my,mine,his,hers,our,ours,your,yours). We also read a biography about Roy Chapman Andrews and identifying the difference between facts and opinions listed in the text.

Science: In science we continued our lessons on weather. We reviewed the water cycle and we began to discuss severe weather storms and how meteorologists predict weather so people can be prepared.

Math

In math we revised skip counting by playing a game. We also continue to practise division with remainders and the students learn the strategy to divide big numbers with remainders.

Science

In science we talked about energy sources: fossil-fuels, different types of renewable energy and alternative/nuclear energy. We also learnt how to conserve the resources by applying the 3Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle.

English

In English we continued practicing complex sentences. We compared compound and complex sentences. We played a game to practice identifying both types of sentences as well as independent and dependent clauses. We read a nonfiction text about volcanoes and listed facts that we learned. We also started a read aloud book: Ramona Quimby age 8.

English: Last week we were working on a piece of narrative writing – My snowy day. Each of them was composed of 4 pictures and at least one caption under each of them. We were careful to start each sentence with a capital letter and end it with a period. The kids also read a story about Max the Cat and continued working on some new spelling words. The ones for this week’s test are:
ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety, hundred.

Math: We were working on the concept of place value – tens and ones. We also revised some math concepts we already know (partners to 10, completing to 10 as addition strategy, doubles, near doubles, teen numbers) by playing a lot of board games.

Science: We are currently talking about habitats. So far, we have read about what a habitat is and had a look at some of its examples like: polar, desert, grassland, rainforest and salty water.

English

This week we had a spelling test. We also worked on how to write an essay and looked at the similarities between the parts of a paragraph and the parts of an essay. We began brainstorming topics and arguments for a persuasive essay.

Science

This week each student gave their presentation about their endangered species.

On Thursday we spent the day at the National Stadium.

Kindergarten News

English: In English, we have reviewed tricky words ( live and give ). Â We have been continuing revising all Tall letters.
Math: In Math, we haveÂ continued withÂ numbers 1-10. Â We have been practicing ten in teen numbers and continuing with math stories addition and subtraction.
Science: In Science, We have beenÂ discussing rocks and observing them by their size and shapes.
Social studies: In Social studies, we have been continuing with lessons about family and how they provide love for each other.
