# Monthly Archives: March 2017

Math: In math we solved many word problems which require taking to steps to find the answer, so we practiced understanding the story. We also revised the names of coins and adding money.

Language Arts: In Language Arts we continued working in -ing verbs and we began to work on combining sentences with common subjects and predicates.

Science: In science we continued our unit on states of matter. We discussed how matter changes and various properties of solids, liquids, and gases.

English

In English we continued practicing combining sentences. We also reviewed how to properly capitalize book titles. We played a new game to review our compound spelling words.

Math

In math we solved many word problems for addition and subtraction and the students were reminded how to add and subtract with regrouping. We also did some rounding up or down to the nearest tens or hundreds and estimating.

Science

In science we revised the water cycle and 3 states of matter that water can be found in and how temperature affects the change of state. We also talked about types of clouds and what kind of weather they mean.

English: We were working a lot on listening comprehension and differentiating between a poem and a narrative; fiction and non-fiction. Also, we started the topic of adjectives, yay!
From now on, the class will be divided in two spelling test groups. The kids know who is in which one.
Groups one words: cat, dog, dad, red, top, six, him, hat, sad, hot, cap, dot, mat, tap, did, rot, sat, pet, had, ram
Group two words: mother, father, forget, longer, rooster, slither, artist, continue, toilet, zooming

Math: We are still focusing on addition withing 2 using the make ten strategy but we also came back to tens and ones topic lat week.

Science: we are learning about Earth resources. Last week we studied air and water and soil. We made windmills and planted some seeds 🙂

Language Arts: In Language Arts we reviewed -ing verbs and how to change the endings. For example jump-jumping, bake-baking, tie-tying.

Math: In math we solved different types of word problems: addition, subtraction, comparing and with a missing addend. We continue to practice addition and subtraction with regrouping.

Science: In science we completed our unit on planets and began to learn about the three states of matter.

English: In English, we have been revising the alphabet in groups and have continued tricky words ( more and before).
Math: In Math, we have continued with numbers 1-10. We have been reviewing teen numbers equation partners.
Science: In Science, We have been talking about high and low sounds.
Social studies: In Social studies, we have been reviewing seasons of the year and types of weather.
