English

This week we read a biography about George Washington Carver. We also read an informational text about farming at schools in the US. We have also continued working on our essay and learned how to write a body paragraph. Finally, we had our spelling and vocab test.

Science

this week we started a new unit on energy and discussed potential energy, kinetic energy, and mechanical energy. Please remember that 4th graders have a science project due on Wednesday April 18. Not everyone will present on this day, but everyone needs to bring their poster or PowerPoint on this day.

Math

In math we continue practicing long division and multiplication in columns. We also started to learn geometry: types of angles: acute, obtuse and right, types of triangles based on angles and sides. What are polygons? Types of polygons. Types of quadrilaterals: parallelograms, rectangles, squares and rhombuses. We also learnt about symmetry.

Language Arts

In language arts we reviewed contractions. We also learned about a new type of poem called diamente poems and practiced writing our own.

Science

In science we continued our chapter on the phases of the moon and learned about high and low tides and how the moon controls earth cycles.

Math

In math we continue learning to tell the time: half past and full hours as well as 1 minute intervals. We also continue mastering addition and subtraction skills.

Science

In science we talked about the sky and objects we can see on it during the day and night. What is the difference between a star and a planet? Why is Sun a star? Where does the moonlight come from?

Language Arts

In language arts we learned about possessive pronouns and when to properly use them. For example (his, her, hers, your, yours, my, mine…etc) We also read a story about the ugly duckling and discussed how this folk tale is passed down for many generations.
