In math we revised fractions. Coloring the given fraction of a shape, comparing fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator. Word problems with fractions.
In Language Arts we reviewed some grammar. We discussed combining sentences with adjectives and adverbs. We also worked on commas after introductory words.
We continued our lessons on matter. Reviewing mixtures and solutions and changes to matter.
In math we learn adding 2-digit numbers with regrouping. For now the students operate on real objects – beans, which they put in bags of 10.
In science we learnt about types of matter: solid, liquid, gas. What are their characteristics? How does matter change?
In LA we worked on our independent writing skills. We practiced expanding sentences to include more details. We also reviewed sight words and completed sentences by filling in the correct missing word. We also read new Usborne story books that we received from the book fair.
English: Last week was text analysis continuation. We read a story a realistic fiction story and tried to find evidence for understanding the characters.
Important info: the kids do not need to hand in thei journals anymore.
New spelling words: knot, copy, planning, lonely, heavily, seriously, answered, guessed, kite, cookies.
Math: Since we are done with the program (yay!), last week we were already revisiting different concepts. Until the end of the school year, we will go back and practice various topics. The work may differ from chld to child depending on how advanced they are. Some kids we working on telling time, some on place value, and a couple attempted to grasp more complex concepts on fractions.
Science: We are done with our chapter on space. We learned about how Earth rotates and orbits the Sun, which causes our shadow to change throughout the day. We discussed phases of the Moon, cnstellations, and many interesting features of the planets.
The kindergarten children learned the sounds “v” and “oo”. We learned about volcanoes, and we did a scientific experiment (artificial volcano) and we learned many more words starting with v. We practised mental maths, subtractions to 10. The children made lovely flowers (hyacinthe) for mother’s day. They had fun going around the obstacle course on Friday.
English: In English, we have been reviewing past sounds that we learned in jolly phonics and past concept words.
Science: In Science, We reviewed our topic about exercising and did some work with push and pull and wind.
Social studies: In Social Studies, we reviewed about how things move.
Math: In math, we were making up to number 13 and reviewing past concepts and counting up to twenty.
