The time in Kindergarten flies by as we learn a lot, and have even more fun!

For the past few weeks we have been mostly concentrating on our Alphabet bootcamp and Number bootcamp.

In English Language Arts, we have learned all about letters Aa through Ll. We learned their names and their sounds, how to form them and how to read them. We have read many Alphabet books as well, we will be happy to read them for you too!

In Maths, we learned all about numbers 0 through 8. Numberblocks, and our handy number anchor charts, helped us understand the relation between a number and its quantities. We have also counted out that by now we have been in school for 18 days already!

Last, but not least, we have continued learning about Social skills that one needs in school. Tom Cat and Tabby Cat taught us all about issues such as appropriate voice volume, impulse control, being a good friend etc. They are becoming our close friends.

Most importantly, this Friday we had our first swimming lesson! We were all very excited to visit the swimming pool, and only a little bit nervous. Below you will find pictures and videos from that day.

In maths we continued learning about shapes. The features of the shapes also enabled us to learn all about classifying. We classified them by all the possible categories; their sides, their edges, their faces. We also classified a group of monsters by their body parts just for fun!

In Social studies we have continued exploring maps and globes. This time that lead us to learn about the 7 continents and 5 oceans of the Earth. We learned about all of them and their location of our planet. It was quite opening to how different various parts of Earth are!

PreK & K Student of the month

For Kindergarten and Prekindergarten we have decided to recognize the whole family as our students are not yet completely independent and rely on parents’ help to succeed with schoolwork.

For the month of May, I have chosen Neel and the Bhojwani family.
This month Neel has attended every single virtual lesson and was always actively participating. He was motivated to work, even when the activities were challenging. Each day his voice was shining through his schoolwork and the additional projects that I received from him and his parents. He has also made incredible progress since the beginning of virtual learning. It’s been pure joy to work with him and see him blossom!

This week has been very busy for Kindergarten!

In English language arts we have been celebrating Book week. To honor this special time we read our favorite books aloud and wrote reviews for them. Kindergarteners were very observant in their rating of the books taking into consideration all necessary categories; beauty of the illustrations, humor of the story, and integrity of the characters! We also created our own books to conclude Book week and through that activity found our creative voices!

In Maths we have officially started a new unit on Solid or 3D shapes. We learned about cubes, cuboids, cones, pyramids, and cylinders. We discussed how they are similar to and different from flat or 2D shapes. We explored their features; faces, edges, and vertices or corners.

In Science, we have continued learning about matter. This week we focused on physical and chemical changes of matter. We discussed how each of them looks like and how the end product of each of them differs. To put our theoretical knowledge intro practice we built exploding volcanos!
